On the 7th, we were able to see almost the entirety of Espacio Nagoya Castle, located just west of Nagoya Castle. "ESPACIO" is Spanish for "space" or "universe," and the hotel aims to be a one-of-a-kind luxury hotel. The hotel will replace Hotel Nagoya Castle, which closed in 2020, and is scheduled to open in October of this year. The original plan was for it to be 11 stories tall, with 108 guest rooms and 30 suites. We spoke to people living near the hotel. (Nearby resident) "I'd heard it would resemble a castle, but I never imagined it would be built like a castle tower." The hotel is about 250 meters from Nagoya Castle's tower. The hotel's roof is castle-style, blending in with the castle. (A neighbor living next door) "I think there are more foreign tourists than Japanese customers. We used to dine at the Castle Hotel, but who knows what the future holds... It depends on the prices." The Emperor and Giants players, too. Another neighbor added... (A neighbor living nearby) "Sumo wrestlers and professional baseball players used to stay here. You'd see professional baseball players walking around this area in just their underwear. When Nagoya Dome was first built and they won the championship, the Giants and Chunichi Dragons threw beer at the hotel in the parking lot here because they couldn't do so." "Hotel Nagoya Castle" opened in 1969. It was known as one of Nagoya's most prestigious hotels, with the Emperor staying there and the professional baseball team, the Giants, using it as their regular lodging. In 2000, the name was changed to "Westin Nagoya Castle," and Shigeo Nagashima was there on the opening day. After the COVID-19 pandemic, further inbound demand is expected.
