Spirit is a story about a man's inner strength, the blazing fire he's born with that the world will try it's hardest to put out. Spirit has been on my mind for a while. It was probably the movie that had the biggest influence on me between the ages of 7 and 9. Watching back, it's a surprisingly intense exploration of masculine ideals. We've got themes of control, humiliation, dignity, brotherhood, depression, and sacrifice. This one took me a while, trying to properly honor it.
