Driven by a lifelong bond, Captain Bill Street vows to hunt down the killer, working alongside his resourceful reporter ally, Bobbie Logan, and the brilliant, analytical detective Mr. James Lee Wong. The investigation quickly takes a dangerous turn into the shady world of waterfront smuggling when a highly valuable piece of Ming Dynasty emerald jade is discovered in the slain officer’s desk. The trail leads straight to Belden’s jewelry store and the notorious Club Neptune, operated by the slippery gambler "Hardway" Harry Lockett. However, just as the truth begins to unravel, a ruthless killer strikes again and again to silence anyone who knows too much—executing the jeweler Frank Belden Sr., a glamorous woman named Tanya Serova, and a talented radio actor named Griswold. With each murder meticulously staged to provide the primary suspects with airtight, split-second alibis, the police find themselves completely baffled. It is up to Mr. Wong to see past the clever deceptions. By reverse-engineering a brilliant alibi scheme involving a remote-control radio and a live broadcast, Wong uncovers the shocking identity of the mastermind behind the smuggling ring. In a heart-pounding final confrontation, Street, Wong, and Bobbie must risk their lives to trap a desperate killer who will stop at nothing to cover his tracks.
