Styling My Yew Bonsai Tree
I style my dwarf yew bonsai tree (Taxus x media ‘Dark Green Spreader’). I haven’t done any work on this tree for over a year and it has grown shaggy and ready for a styling. I trim the sedum understory and remove the large (7 mm) wire from the trunk, which has done its job in putting movement into the otherwise straight trunk. I then wire the major branches down and prune most of the growth tips. I bought this tree three years ago (Fall of 2022) at my local garden center for about 30 dollars. I had begun to grow ambivalent about it and had considered getting rid of it, but have recently had a change of heart; this is becoming on of my favorites (at least in my top 15). Yew is an excellent species for bonsai.
