The castle was built in 1821 and for many years was inhabited by wealthy families. Its last inhabitants were Count Hadik and Countess Zici. After the outbreak of World War II, the Count and Countess fled the castle, and the property was plundered first by the Germans, then by the Russians. At that time, the vast majority of the valuables inside were lost forever. After the war, the castle stood empty for many years, also being used as a warehouse. In 1976, while cleaning up the castle grounds, a true treasure was discovered, hidden there by Count Hadik and his wife before they left. Two enormous chests containing 500 items were buried under a tree. These included silver and gold tableware and cutlery, jewelry, caskets, and 19th- and 20th-century works. All these treasures were transferred to the Sent Ishwan Museum, where they can be admired to this day. However, the Count and Countess did not live to see this day, having died several years before the discovery and being buried near the castle. In 1982, the castle was renovated and converted into a three-star hotel. In 2008, the global economic crisis hit, which the hotel could not withstand, and the building soon closed. Ultimately, in 2014, the castle was purchased by a Saudi businessman, who, however, was unable to protect it from thieves, who continue to vandalize and plunder it to this day. The hotel is currently awaiting further renovations. However, it is unclear whether they will be completed. I only take my photos, and I only leave my footprints.
