*Episode 342 - Tuesday (24 February 2026): The Apostles’ Doctrine | Can You Rebuke An Elder? In today's episode we hope to again place under the microscope whether believers are empowered to rebuke an elder who has stepped outside of what is allowed by Scripture. Is it a sin to correct an elder? This question has been the subject of much discussion. In I Timothy chapter 5 verse 1 the apostle Paul says: "Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; ad the younger men as brethren". That word translated rebuke means to chastise with words, that is, to upbraid. Many have used this text to keep believers in line when addressing elders? But, the question is, was the Holy Spirit via the pen of the Apostle Paul telling believers that elders cannot be corrected by brethren who are not in the leadership ranks of the church? To escalate the conversation even further, verse 19 of the same chapter says: "Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses". Are elders being given special treatment by the Scriptures? What if you are the only person wronged by an elder, does that mean you will not have your matter addressed?
