VISIT THE BONE MUSEUM https://www.thebonemuseum.org Step into the secret, symbolic world of the Oddfellows and meet the skeletons they left behind. In this video, we take you inside one of our largest exhibits at The Bone Museum in Brooklyn, NY: THE ODDFELLOWS. Containing Real Human Bones used in the ceremonies of a secret society known as The Independent Order of Oddfellows, these real human remains were part of symbolic rituals meant to remind members of mortality, morality, and initiate brotherhood. We explore the mysterious history of the Oddfellows, their use of authentic human skeletons in ritual practice, and how these remains ended up in a modern collection such as ours. This exhibit opens the door to larger conversations about fraternal history, the ethics and cultural impact of human remains, as well as the ways real human skeletons can still teach us today.
