The Enchanted Circle: Driving from Questa to Red River, New Mexico

In this section of the Enchanted Circle we leave the high-desert plains of Questa behind and head straight into the steep, granite walls of the Red River Canyon along NM-38. This winding mountain drive follows the river upstream, climbing steadily through the Carson National Forest toward the alpine resort town of Red River then into the heavily forested Aspen Valley/Upper Red River Valley. One highlight was spotting local bighorn sheep grazing right along the shoulder of the blacktop.
