Kumu Hula Maelia Loebenstein Carter | Ke Ao Mālamalama o Ka Hula: The Enlightenment of Hula Ep. 2 Kumu Hula Maelia Kahanuola Loebenstein Carter sits down for a talk story interview with Kumu Hula Kawaikapu Hewett. Maelia is a former Miss Aloha Hula and kumu hula for Ka Pā Hula o Kauanoe o Waʻahila which was started by her late grandmother and hula master Aunty Mae Ulalia Long Loebenstein. As a child, she was chosen by her grandmother to carry on her family’s hula legacy. Maelia continues the teachings of Aunty Mae, taking honors at the world-renowned Merrie Monarch Festival as well as other hula competitions.
