NCRPO: Pro-Marcoleta rally at EDSA to continue at Liwasang Bonifacio | ABS-CBN News

MANILA -- The protest held by members of Iglesia ni Cristo at the People Power Monument in Quezon City is set to continue at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on Thursday, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). This, after the Quezon City government revoked the permit it earlier granted for the protest to resume on its third day. "Sa ngayon, based doon sa kanilang naging announcement, Liwasang Bonifacio po sila magtutuloy nung kanilang magiging pagtitipon. May iba na pinadi-diretso na doon 'yung mga nag-disperse na members," NCRPO Spokesperson P/Maj. Hazel Asilo said in an interview with DZMM TeleRadyo. Asilo added that the Quezon City government has not yet issued a statement regarding the revocation of the permit and that the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety is expected to release a statement as to the reason for the revocation. The official also said that no untoward incidents were recorded in the area after it was announced that the permit for the third day of their protest was revoked. "Nag-disperse naman sila nang maayos. Inannounce naman sa kanila na na-cancel, na-revoke 'yung kanilang permit para bukas. At inannounce na rin [nila] na lilipat sila. Wala naman ano mang reaksyon mula sa [INC] members at isa-isa na silang nag-aalisan at 'yung iba naman ay nagtatanggal na ng kanilang ginamit na stage at sound system," Asilo said. The Wednesday protest was the second straight day that members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) held at the People Power Monument and it was the only day that had a legitimate permit from the local government. The protest last Tuesday had no permit from the QC LGU and earned the ire of commuters after several protesters and vehicles blocked the road as early as 2 a.m. According to some rallyists, the surprise assembly was held as a protest to the looming plunder case to be filed by the Office of the Ombudsman against INC Sen. Rodante Marcoleta. Meanwhile, on Wednesday afternoon, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla told media that "nothing has changed" and that they will still file a case against Marcoleta despite the INC's rally.
