Validation/Verification of Multi-target Tests in Microbiology [Hot Topic]

Multi-target microbiology testing is becoming more common. This type of testing provides rapid turnaround time for multiple results on a single specimen. While respiratory pathogens are most commonly tested in this manner, emerging areas of interest include GI organisms, blood culture identification panels, meningitis panels, and sexually transmitted disease panels. Validation and verification of this type of testing is complicated and proper procedures must be followed.
