Turn back the clock, fire up the DeLorean, it's time to save the Hill County Courthouse & Clocktower. The only way to do that is to rock out with a cherry ES-345 like it's 1955! Mark Agnesi and John Bohlinger share the spectacular news on the partnership between Gibson and Back to the Future (Universal Pictures) that created the brand-new, Marty McFly-inspired, ES-345 reissue guitar. But before we dig into the details of the guitar (limited to 88), Agnesi and Bohlinger discuss the long-running, nearly two-decade quest to locate the original Gibson ES-345 used in Back to the Future that sparked this whole collaboration. Agnesi—who began searching for the guitar on his first day at Norman’s Rare Guitars—explains how the hunt evolved into a full-scale documentary project. Despite lining up an all-star cast including Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Huey Lewis, the team still hasn’t found the real instrument. His best guesses are that it was either sold, taken, misplaced, or owned by someone unwilling to be found. In the meantime, Gibson released a limited-edition “Back to the Future 1955 ES-345,” a lovingly crafted replica aged by Murphy Lab. The case candy is insane. It's loaded with fan-centric Easter eggs—from a Hill Valley Music decal to case candy like a flux-capacitor pocket, Pin Heads guitar picks, and a “Save the Clock Tower” flyer.
