Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Allen Lynch
Sgt. Allen Lynch was serving as a radio telephone operator with the Army’s Company D during the Vietnam War when he rescued three wounded soldiers exposed to enemy fire on Dec. 15, 1967. According to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society webpage, Lynch dashed across 50 meters of open ground through a hail of enemy fire to administer aid then crossed the same open area three times to carry the wounded men to safety. When his company was forced to withdraw, Lynch remained to aid his comrades and defended his isolated position for two hours. After locating the counterattacking friendly company, he assisted in directing the attack and evacuating the three casualties.
