Paulo "Kiss" Mattos _____________________________________________________________ Playing with Rush: My Version of Tom Sawyer (and an apology to Alex!) "Since I was a teenager, one question has pounded in the head of this pseudo-guitarist: "What would it feel like to have a 'rhythm section' featuring none other than Geddy Lee on bass and Neil Peart on drums?" Let’s be honest: Alex Lifeson, that sacred monster and creator of some of the most epic riffs of all time, has always been one lucky guy. Imagine having that rhythm section behind you! In my case, it would be like driving a Formula 1 car when you only have a bicycle license! Taking advantage of today’s magic technology — which allows us to isolate instruments from a recording as if by magic (or witchcraft, depending on your perspective) — I couldn’t resist the temptation. With a mix of courage and audacity, I removed Alex’s guitar parts and recorded "Tom Sawyer" in his place. Alex, if you’re reading this: a thousand apologies! I promise it was all for a noble cause: fulfilling a dream (and a bit of morbid curiosity). The result is in this video: me handling all the guitar parts, backed by the original "help" from Geddy Lee (bass, vocals, and keyboards) and Neil Peart (drums) on "Tom Sawyer," from the legendary album Moving Pictures. Another dream come true — and, hopefully, no lawsuits on the horizon! 🤘🎸 My deepest respect and admiration for the greatest band of all time: Rush!"
