Hey candle friends! Today we’re talking all about pricing your products — specifically how I calculate my profit margins (and why I aim for 70–80%). I’ll show you my simple formula, explain how overhead plays a role, and give you a real example you can apply to your own products. How I calculate profit margin (with overhead): Formula: Retail Price × (1 – (Target PM – OH Burden)) = Max COGS Example: $25 × (1 – (0.70 – 0.04)) = $8.50 👉 That means if I want a 70% profit margin (after my 4% overhead burden), I can spend up to $8.50 to make this product. 💡 I usually aim for 70–80% overall across my products. If one falls a little lower, I balance it out with another that’s higher — so my overall margins stay right where I want them.
