Hellgeth Unimog Tenerex 🔥 Das ultimative Expeditionsmobil für die Weltreise

An expedition vehicle based on the Unimog is considered the ultimate tool for challenging terrain in the world of long-distance travel. However, when the expertise of Hellgeth comes into play, the boundaries of what is technically possible are pushed even further. Within the industry, the company is often referred to as the "AMG for Unimogs," which perfectly captures the essence of the matter, as they undertake profound mechanical modifications that go far beyond purely cosmetic alterations. Jörg Baruter, sales expert at Hellgeth, explains that their vehicles represent a symbiosis of extreme off-road capability and essential living comfort. The challenge lies in refining the legendary Unimog platform so that it can withstand the rigors of a long-term expedition without compromising the physical advantages of the base vehicle. The technical transformation begins right at the heart of the vehicle. While Mercedes-Benz delivers the Unimog from the factory with only four-cylinder engines in certain configurations, the manufacturer essentially outsourced the installation of the large 7.7-liter six-cylinder engine to Hellgeth. This extensive modification to the drive system requires not only relocating the transmission but also converting to permanent all-wheel drive. To optimize the available space for long-distance expeditions, the team makes significant alterations to the frame structure. The original compressed air tanks for the braking system are relocated inside the frame, and the heavy battery box is also relocated below the entry step. These modifications create the necessary space for a robust 360-liter fuel tank system and allow for storage boxes with a depth of 60 centimeters, which would be impossible in a standard production vehicle due to the existing components. The design philosophy of the camper cabin continues this uncompromising commitment to quality. In close collaboration with Knoblauch, known for its MO X brand, a structure made of 55-millimeter-thick GRP sandwich walls is being created. A special, vibration-resistant, and non-hygroscopic rigid foam serves as insulation, which does not absorb moisture and thus effectively prevents mold growth. A crucial aspect of the technical expertise is the connection technology: the furniture is primarily bonded to the cabin structure rather than screwed. Because adhesive bonds distribute forces over a large area, the interior remains absolutely stable even on the most challenging, corrugated African roads, as no localized stress concentrations occur. Despite this robustness, the overall height was limited to 3.46 meters to remain below the critical clearance height of 3.50 meters for emergency vehicles, while a comfortable standing height of 1.98 meters was achieved inside. The interior is designed for maximum functionality and technical self-sufficiency. The centerpiece of the living area is a pull-out bed measuring 2.10 meters by 1.40 meters, designed so that the kitchen remains fully functional even when extended. Power is supplied by a 24-volt system with a 400 amp-hour lithium battery, expandable to 600 amp-hours. The energy concept is particularly noteworthy: the vehicle's alternator delivers an impressive 150 amps, making the 600 Wp walkable yacht-style solar panels on the roof almost redundant, provided the vehicle is driven regularly. Hellgeth deliberately accepts a reduction in solar efficiency of approximately 10 percent to allow the customer to use the roof as a terrace for enjoying the sunset. A 220-liter fresh water tank and a clever bathroom design that also serves as a passageway to the driver's cab complete the concept. The access door, measuring 600 by 900 millimeters, is precisely dimensioned to ensure the structural stability of the cab is not compromised. Regarding off-road capability, Hellgeth adheres to a strict policy on weight distribution. Heavy rear loads, such as motorcycle carriers, are consistently rejected, as the Unimog's torsionally flexible frame cannot withstand such loads far behind the rear axle without compromising driving stability and articulation. The ready-to-use vehicle weighs approximately 7.8 tons. For holders of the old Class 3 driver's license, Hellgeth offers a true 7.5-ton version, which, thanks to the omission of the heavy reduction gear, saves around 90 kilograms while still offering a payload capacity of 500 kilograms. Practical experience shows that, due to the vehicle's low weight and modern gear ratios, it often manages without the need for reduction gearing, even in challenging terrain. Exclusive details such as Adchensen wheels and weight-optimized aluminum bumpers underscore its high-end aspirations.
