We the Just Transition

We the Just Transition is a celebration of the values and the victories of the community-led Just Transition that is being fought for across South Africa. It offers us a window into the work that is being done behind the noisy headlines, in community halls and make-shift meeting places across the country, out of the coal dust of Emalahleni and the flood plains of eThekwini. Ordinary people are tackling the immense, global problems presented by climate change at a community level - organising around shared needs, forming new and sometimes challenging partnerships, educating and equipping themselves to stand strong in the battle for a sustainable future that is just for the planet and just for us all. It turns out the vast majority of us want the same basic things, and as our fossil-fuel dependent world becomes increasingly volatile and increasingly unjust, we have an opportunity to re-imagine the kind of world we want to live in, and to play an active part in birthing it.
