Astor Piazzolla: Tango Final for piano solo (with score)
Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) Astor Piazzolla was born in 1921 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. When he was 4, his family emigrated to New York. While the tango was very important in his family, Piazzolla was initially more interested in jazz and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. In 1929, Piazzolla began playing the Bandoneon. Béla Wilda, a piano student of Sergei Rachmaninoff, taught him Bach on the bandoneon in New York. In 1934, Piazzolla met the great tango legend Carlos Gardel and the young bandoneon player played a newsboy in one of Gardel's films. In 1937, the family returned to Argentina. There Piazzolla came into contact with Elvino Vardaros' novel interpretation of tango, which left its mark on him and now had a lasting effect on his enthusiasm for tango. Piazzolla decided to go to Paris in 1954 to study composition with the famous composition teacher Nadja Boulanger. Out of shame, he initially concealed his musical origins in the tango milieu, but was strongly encouraged by Nadja Boulanger to continue with the tango. Piazzolla composed over 300 tangos in the course of his life. Incidentally, he wrote his first tango when he was only 10 or 11 years old. As a rule, Piazzolla's tangos are not composed for dancing but for listening. In addition to strictly metrical passages, there are always passages with freer tempos in his tangos. Other Tangos I have recorded: • Astor Piazzolla: Tango "Invierno porteño" ... #Piazzolla #Tangofinal #pianosheetmusic
