DREAM STREAM: FULL FILM | EPIC wild brown trout fly fishing Scotland | North West Highlands

For as long as I can remember I’ve had this obsession with fly-fishing for trout in wild places. It all started when, as a boy of 8 or 9 years old, I first hiked up into the hills behind my village and caught gorgeous, hand-sized trout from a tiny tributary of the river Devon. These days I live in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city. Although the urban trout fishing on my doorstep is quite good (actually, it's really, really good!), I often long to escape the noise and distractions of the city. Sutherland, in the far northwest of country, is a raw and elemental place. When fishing up here, it is almost impossible to avoid being drawn into a deeper connection with the landscape. You cast out your line and watch as the loop unfurls through billions of years of evolution. Here, the flowing river reminds you that you that everything flows, and all that exists is one. John Muir captured the sentiment perfectly when he wrote ‘when one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.’ In this short film, I travel to a secret river in a secluded valley, far from civilisation.
