In March 1991, the country was shaken by unbelievable news: Ricardo Darín had been arrested for smuggling. This led to an investigation that would place major car dealerships at the center of the scandal. These dealerships were managing the importation of vehicles for people with disabilities without paying taxes and illegally selling them to the rich, famous, and powerful. Darín owned a Nissan Pathfinder that was legally registered to a widow from Mar del Plata. And he wasn't the only one: more than 50 people would end up being prosecuted or arrested, and almost 200 vehicles would be seized. The scandal would finally explode when a Mercedes Benz belonging to Susana Giménez was found hidden in a shed on her husband's property, covered with dry grass. The mastermind behind the operation was José "Cacho" Steinberg, a businessman with political connections, who had been Carlos Monzón's manager.
