As Howard Payne and I have pointed out in many professional presentations about the topic over the years, throughout our entire nation of 300+ million citizens, an average of just 26 people die in a given year riding elevators… the vast majority of those victims are trained professionals working on the devices at the time. As far as passenger travel, elevators are incredibly safe. However, ANY large technical system like this requires routine inspection, maintenance, and upkeep. Today's video is a story about one building manager's choice to cut corners and play it a little fast and loose with safety regulations. How would you approach this situation if you encountered an elevator like this? Would you ride it? Would you refuse to stay in this hotel? Would you alert any authorities about the problem?
