Budget K24 Civic EK Swap: Resurrecting a K-swap classic

Budget K24 Civic EK Swap: Resurrecting a K-swap classic We decided to resurrect an old Hasport Project car. This was the first 96-00 Civic K swapped using the first EKK mount kit. Back then a K-series swap cost $6,000 or more. This car pioneered a lot of parts. Headers, AEM Cold Air Intake, AEM EMS Series 2, Rev Hard K-series Turbo Kit and eventually Hasport's EKK2 mounts with EG subframe. A bit of engine swap history. Our Mega Millions numbers haven't hit yet, so once again we're looking for a budget friendly K-series swap. The 2012 Civic Si and 2009 Acura TSX use a variant of the K24 that isn't popular for swapping like the earlier versions of the K series engines. That's because it isn't compatible with the Hondata K-Pro or KTuner ECUs. It's crank angle sensor pulses too many times and the older style sensor can't be retrofitted without custom parts. Although the K24Z in the 9th gen Si engine is still a little pricey, the TSX K24Z3 engine, which is virtually identical, can be had for far less. A scan of those engines on www.car-part.com shows an abundance of engines. Since they are cheap and plentiful, Hasport and VTEC Academy are out to see just what is involved with using that engine to swap into the early Civics. You know we are all about budget swaps.
