100 Greatest Singers: ANNELIESE ROTHENBERGER
THIS PROJECT IS RESERVED ONLY FOR THE GREATEST! What do you think about Anneliese Rothenberger in this collection? Please comment! Anneliese Rothenberger, Soprano (1926-2010) Friedrich Freiherr von Flotow Martha Letzte Rose (Last rose of summer) sung in german with Fritz Wunderlich, Tenor (1930-1966) (Recorded 1960) My personal opinion: In germany, Anneliese Rothenberger still is very popular. She´d made hundred of recordings and TV-Shows and was omnipresent. With this it´s easy to overestimate her, but choosing her in this list is full persuasion. Rothenberger was a typical german style lyric soprano, made for Mozart, Strauss and for operettas. But she sang almost everything from baroque to modern music, even Lulu. Barely another soprano I know had such a crystal clear pronunciation and such an aristocratic timbré. I rate her more than Schwarzkopf, especially in Lieder and operettas. And hearing her Un bel di (unfortunately only available in german) gives me chills down my spine. She was excellent! I´m very sad to learn, that on May 24th 2010, Frau Rothenberger passed away. She always was my favorite german soprano, and for me with this sad message an era came to an end... THE COMPLETE OVERVIEW: GO TO "ALL SINGERS IN THIS LIST"
