Inside the largest personal submarine (Original sound was muted by YouTube). Germany - 2015
The following footage shows two trips of the private submarine "Euronaut" to the wreck of "Sandtrans" and to the unnamed wreck field off the German island Darss in Baltic Sea. The trips took place in july and august 2015 with a purpose to train the crew. "Sandtrans" was a Danish suction excavator, which sank on september 15th 1978. Overall length 60 m (197 ft) and lays keel up with the max depth of 12 m (39 ft). Min. depth at the highest point 5 m (16 ft). The typical visibility is below 5 m. The day we visited the wreck it was even much worse. "Euronaut" is a private project of a research and diver support submarine around Carsten Standfuss - a German naval architect. It has been designed between 1988 and 2000. Then it took another 12 years to build it on holidays, weekends and after work. Most systems on board are second hand and homebuilt. The sub has overall length of 16 m (52 ft), surface displacement of 57 tons and is capable of diving up to 250 m (820 ft). Transit speed is up to 6 knots with a 190 hp diesel engine. Electric drive measures 40 kW. The life support system provides air for the crew of six persons for a week. The diving chamber allows saturation dives to the depths similar to the operational depth of the submarine. / euronaut.org http://www.euronaut.org Music: Grass - Silent Partner
