Light Water Reactors – large reactors and SMRs.- Tony Irwin, SMR Nuclear Technologies
Keynote presentation by Tony Irwin, SMR Nuclear Technologies ANA2022 Conference at the UTS Aerial Function Centre, Ultimo, NSW, Australia on 8 April 2022. With all the excitement about advanced reactors, is there still an interest in light water reactors? Of the current 437 operable reactors worldwide, 86% are light water reactors with the Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) the most popular with 304 PWRs (70%) operable. The dominance of light water reactors has continued with reactors under construction – 84% are PWRs, with an average output capacity of larger than 1,100 MWe.
