Fabric Covered Hot Air Balloon

I had a set of hot air balloon lanterns from Oriental Trading as Ramadan Decorations. I had intended to spray paint them gold and silver. After I sprayed one of the them gold, I decided I didn't like it and chose to leave the other ones in the color they came in but did add some gold glitter spray. When my friend, Megan, came over and saw the hot air balloon lanterns she not only loved them, she said she had wanted to make one covered with fabric. Well, four weeks and random Pinterest recommendation, I'm finding myself covering a hot air balloon lantern with strips of fabric I picked up from Jo-Ann. I choose six patterns in coordinating colors: three with gold metallic print and three with pink and maroon floral and geometric designs. I bought 1/3 of a yard each, having them cut in 6 inch strips making a total of 2 yards (I did end up with extra pieces I'll make into a girl's dress if possible). The remnant pieces aren't big enough to make another one the same size. I cut each strip in half to 3". I used my hot glue gun to adhere the fabric strips to the top and bottom, adding a little glue to the widest part of the hot air balloon. At the top and bottom, the fabric overlaps quite a bit, you may choose to trim the fabric into wedges at the top and bottom, but I left it as is. The project took about 1.5-2 hours and cost about $30. Level: Moderate Duration: 2 hours Cost: $30 You could cut that down in half by using scrap fabric or cheaper fabric.
