Chandra - Captain Kangaroo

In the only known live footage from her early ’80s era, 13-year-old cult post-punk star Chandra Oppenheim made her unlikely TV debut on CBS’s long-running weekday morning variety show Captain Kangaroo. Joined by her adolescent backing band The Chandra Dimension, featuring childhood friend Evelyn Teploff (age 12) on keys, Marina Sally (19) on bass, and Les Horowitz (16) on drums, plus adult bandleaders Steven Alexander and Eugenie Diserio of The Dance, Chandra bops through “Get It Out Of Your System” and an unreleased, unnamed song to close the segment. “I get the greatest satisfaction from being on stage” she says simply, and the feeling remains four decades later.
