They went hoping to improve their lives and ended up losing them or disappearing. They are Colombian and Peruvian citizens who have been caught up in the war in Ukraine, on both the Ukrainian and Russian sides. Some knew they were going to be mercenaries, others were recruited and forced to enlist, like so many foreign combatants swept up in this conflict. During her coverage of the conflict, journalist Almudena Ariza, current RTVE correspondent in Bogotá, had the opportunity to meet some of them on the front lines.
