Dodds Diaries Episode 44 - Tyne & Tees Day Ranger 2

In this episode for the 2nd time in a diary I travel on a Tyne and Tees day ranger ticket for £14.60 however the purpose of this trip was to ride the Esk Valley Line from Middlesbrough to Whitby, a line which I had not done until now. Starting at Chester-le-Street I catch a pacer to Newcastle then down to Darlington on a TPE Class 185. Then I ride a packed pacer to the boro then from Middlesbrough to Whitby I had to stand all the way for an hour and a half on a 2 coach class 156 when Northern Rail should of put 4 coaches on, I wasnt happy and many others were not happy ether. The scenery on the line was breathtaking but its different when standing up and not sitting down. Once I got to the seaside town of Whitby I saw one of the NYMR steam trains depart, I look around the place and the weather was beautiful there. Coming back I catch the 1600 to Middlesbrough, this time I got a seat and had a better ride. I film for an hour at Middlesbrough station then catch a 3rd pacer of the day all the way up the Durham Coast Line to Newcastle but I continue onto the MetroCentre. From there I got pacer number 4 to Hexham just for the ride then come back to Newcastle then for the 5th time I get another pacer but this time it was the late night southbound Northern Rail service that stops at Chester-le-Street and continues onto Durham then terminating at Darlington. So in total I went on 5 class 142 pacers, 1 class 185 and 2 class 156's and I covered a small bit of the ECML, a third of the Tees valley Line, all of the Esk Valley Line, all of the Durham Coast Line and half of the Tyne Valley Line all for just a £14.60 day ticket.
