ORDINATION OF MANY PRIESTS AND DEACONS IN AFRICAN CONTEXT: PART 2

This video is a continuation of Part 1 about the ordination of priests and deacons in a solemn liturgical ceremony in which candidates receive the sacrament of Holy Orders to serve the Church in the Diocese of Hoima in Western Uganda. During this sacred rite, a bishop confers the grace of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands and ancient prayers. The process of becoming a priest typically involves several distinct Steps. Candidates are first ordained as transitional deacons, which allows them to assist priests, proclaim the Gospel, and perform charitable ministries. After serving as a deacon for a period, typically one year, candidates are ordained as priests. They receive the authority to celebrate the Eucharist, forgive sins, and administer sacraments. Historically and across many traditions, these significant ordinations often occur together, with deacons presented first, followed by the ordination of priests in a single, unified Mass. The ceremonies frequently feature symbolic rituals such as the candidates lying prostrate on the floor to signify their humility and total dependence on God, the vesting of the new clergy in their official garments, and the anointing of the priests' hands with holy oil.
