Johann Huizinga's concept the man was Homo Ludens: Playing Man and that games are the basic structure of most cultural institutions Since games are basic to civilization, doesn't it make sense to make games the core of education? In Episode 17, Bill and Penny continue the conversation about using games to teach the curricula and why games work not only to employ higher order thinking skills, but to engage students fully, Now in Episode 18, they return to Best Year Ever to discuss how to get past that mid-year slump. It turns out that Best Year Ever is a FULL YEAR GAME, so Best Year Ever successfully uses games as a way to build teamwork, focus, listening skills and imagination in the classroom. The episode also begins to see teachers as experimenters, making them scientists in their classrooms! We also want to answer some questions we have received. We promised we were not trying to sell anything to you and we meant it. Our intention was to incite, encourage and inspire young teachers and would-be teachers to be creative in their classrooms, to find their passion and then find ways to instill that passion for learning into their students.
