Fuga para a liberdade: a saga dos venezuelanos no Brasil

VEJA followed the saga of Venezuelans crossing the border to escape Nicolás Maduro's dictatorship in the hope of rebuilding their lives in Brazil. Every day, around 250 Venezuelans cross their country's border into Brazil to escape Nicolás Maduro's regime and the poverty that affects more than 90% of the population. Since 2015, when the political and economic crisis worsened, an estimated 170,000 immigrants have settled in Brazil. In 2018 alone, 90,000 people remained in Brazil, and 61,681 asylum applications were filed by Venezuelans alone. In total, Brazil received 80,000 requests for refugee status. According to UNHCR and IOM, the UN refugee and migration agencies, more than 4 million people have already left Venezuela.
