Committed Sea level Rise from Greenland at Today’s 1.1°C

The Greenland Ice Sheet is 3 kilometers thick and has the potential to raise global sea levels by 7 meters if it completely melted. This presentation explores the tipping point of Greenland (the point at which near-complete loss is unavoidable) and underscores the importance of remaining within the 1.5°C limit of the Paris Agreement. Dr. Jason Box is a professor in glaciology at the Geological Survey of Denmark. He was the lead author for five consecutive years (2008-2012) of the Greenland section for NOAA's annual State of the Climate report, he was a contributing author to the IPCC AR4, AR5, and AR6, and he has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications focused on ice climate interactions.
