In 1979, there was a girl named Xia. Her mother had died, leaving her to live with her father and stepmother. They did not love or care for her, and made her work alone in the fields every day. Sometimes she had to sleep alone out in the fields, where ghosts and spirits would come and frighten her. There were also times when she walked home from the farm late in the evening, near sunset, and along the road she would encounter wandering spirits, which scared her very much. Xia lived a very sad and lonely life. Later, when she grew up into a young woman, she got married and left home. Because of all the sadness she had experienced, she never returned to visit her father and stepmother again.
