One Life to Live 1/11/1990

Gabrielle sneaks Al into the hospital to see Max. After a short visit, Max tells Gabrielle he’s planning to fire Tonya and promote her to head costumer. Gabrielle rejects his offer but stops short of telling him about the new path she’s planning to pursue. Andy and Megan hatch a plan to get rid of Mort and his protection racket for good. Renee arrives and tells the two women she has Asa check up on Mort and he’s not the small-time bully she assumed, but a professional criminal with quite the rap sheet. Andy insists she has the situation under control and Renee leaves. Andy and Megan consider calling off their plan (or at least canceling the two guys from Fraternity Row they were going to bring in to help), but it’s too late, Mort has already arrived. The two actors try to intimidate Mort, but he isn’t fooled and quickly brushes them off (bringing Megan’s “Let’s hire an actor from my show to help with this” schemes to 0 for 3). Things are about to turn violent when Renee waltzes iin escorted by Carlo Hesser (Thom Christopher). Debra goes to meet Cord for lunch and is surprised to find Tina waiting for her in the living room of Llanfair. Tina apologizes for the jealous way she’s acted, and assures Debra she knows Cord only sees her as a friend and she hopes one day they can be friends too. Cord tells Debra that the editor of Chic International magazine wants to feature her in the next issue, but Debra refuses. Cord convinces her to reconsider and she agrees to do the photoshoot later today. Tina hears their entire conversation from the next room., but feigns ignorance after Debra leaves. Cord says he’s proud of Tina for apologizing to Debra, but their detente quickly turns into argument when Tina tries to push things further with her husband. Mort immediately changes his tune once he sees Carlo, and he stumbles over himself to walk back his threats and he can’t get out of Max’s Place fast enough. Carlo doesn’t let him go without first threatening to hold him responsible if anything bad happens to the bar or his friends. After Mort leaves, Renee introduces her to her good old friend Carlo who goes all the way back to her Nevada days. Andy convinces him to stay for lunch and he asks Renee to join him. Megan suspects Renee and Carlo may have been more like old flames than old friends. Tina visits the Llanview Grande under an assumed name and books the penthouse suite, pretending to be Cord’s assistant looking for a photoshoot location. Debra tells her sister about the modeling gig. She asks her sister how things are going with Max, but Gabrielle is cagey and doesn’t answer. She is similarly reticent to succumb to Max’s advances or his questioning, but she can’t resist him for long and they end up kissing on his hospital bed.
