Born in 1966 in Saverne, Alsace, he grew up in the heart of the Manouche tradition in a family of guitarists and began playing at a very early age. Discovered early on by Matelot Ferré, a close associate of Django Reinhardt, he quickly gained attention as a child prodigy. Inspired by Reinhardt, he nevertheless soon developed a distinctive musical language of his own. His first recordings in the early 1980s already established his international reputation. In addition to the Gypsy jazz tradition, he was influenced by artists such as Wes Montgomery and George Benson, and later by the fusion aesthetics surrounding Jaco Pastorius and Weather Report. Lagrène demonstrated extraordinary stylistic openness and technical brilliance — at times also on electric bass — continuously expanding his musical spectrum. Throughout his career he has collaborated with numerous giants of jazz and fusion, including Stéphane Grappelli, Larry Coryell, John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucía, Al Di Meola, Stanley Clarke, Miroslav Vitouš, and Mike Stern. Projects ranging from acoustic jazz and modern fusion sounds to renewed explorations of his Manouche roots document the remarkable breadth of his artistry. With formations such as the “Gipsy Project,” big band productions, as well as solo and trio programs, Lagrène has repeatedly set new artistic accents. His work has been honored with awards including the Django d’Or, a Victoire de la Musique, and the French Order of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. Today, Biréli Lagrène stands for a rare combination of virtuosity, stylistic freedom, and musical depth — an artist who unites the tradition and the present of jazz at the highest level. 0:00 Introduction 0:03 Elegant 5:44 Anjo BIRÉLI LAGRÈNE – Guitar JEAN-YVES JUNG – piano WILLIAM BRUNARD – Bass RAPHAËL PANNIER – drums Audio recording- Jeremy Nothman Videoproduction and audiomix - Alex Hoetzinger Recorded live at Konzerthaus Berlin on 13.04.2026 #BireliLagrene #JazzGuitar #DjangoReinhardt #LiveJazz #JazzLive #KonzerthausBerlin #VictorsPlaces #JeanYvesJung #WilliamBrunard #RaphaelPannier #JazzConcert
