Die Stadt, die im zweiten Weltkrieg in 17 Minuten vernichtet wurde

On March 16, 1945, Würzburg was still one of Germany's most beautiful Baroque cities. A city with over a thousand years of history, magnificent churches, the world-famous Residence Palace, and a vibrant old town on the Main River. Just weeks before the end of the war, many residents believed the city would be spared. They were wrong. In just 17 minutes, 225 British Lancaster bombers destroyed 89% of the city center. A firestorm with temperatures reaching up to 2,000 degrees Celsius ravaged the centuries-old half-timbered houses. Over 90,000 people were left homeless. Between 3,500 and 5,000 people lost their lives – many of them civilians, refugees, and wounded soldiers from the city's numerous military hospitals. In this video, I show what Würzburg was like before the attack – and what was lost forever that night. ________________________________ Artificial intelligence was used to process the historical images.
