What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant (with the CPAA)

In this video I am going to walk you through the differences between working as a bookkeeper and working as an accountant and what you can expect your role will involve with each. A role working as a bookkeeper and one as an accountant can seem quite similar and its a question that I receive a lot on the channel however there are a few key differences between the roles. Bookkeeping generally focuses on recording and analysing data in a financial system such as Xero, Quickbooks, Sage and Freeagent for example which is the first step in creating core financial data. However accounting is typically the interpretation and presentation of data to business owners to assist them in making business decisions. Bookkeeping typically consists of: payroll invoicing receipts and bills recording business transactions Whereas accounting usually consists of the following: financial statements and reports budgets tax returns analyzing business performance The tasks that bookkeepers and accountants do can vary between the industry that they are working in, to the type of business that they work for however there is often an element of overlap here.
