This song was inspired by Prayers and Lies, the novel by author Sherri Wood Emmons, and is shared with her permission. Rather than retelling the story, the song draws on the atmosphere and themes that make the book so memorable: family secrets, friendship, faith, judgment, mercy, and the things children quietly absorb while growing up in small Appalachian communities. If you enjoy stories rooted in Appalachia, family, and the complicated bonds that shape us, I highly recommend reading Prayers and Lies.
