Snow Storm Blasts San Bernardino Mountains

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 3.3.25 | 12:45 AM LOCATION: San Bernardino Mountains AREA/CITY: San Bernardino Mountains DETAILS: A powerful but very short and fast-moving storm cell blew through the San Bernardino mountains and quickly reminded residents that Mother Nature is not done with us yet. It all started around 4:30 In the evening when conditions had been dark, cold, and gloomy all day but otherwise dry. But as the clock grew close to 430PM, a blast of heavy hail came from the sky, covering the ground in a blanket of white. This hail attack lasted about 20 minutes before turning to the ever-so-familiar graupel, which is soft pellet-shaped snow that mimics hail but is extremely soft. What follows is the real snow. A round of quiet lighting shows, and it even accompanies the snow. Unfortunately, we were only able to catch a few of the lighting strikes on camera, but we are happy to show what we were able to get. The last time visible lighting was associated with a snowstorm was two years ago. The snow fell heavily for about four hours, and it was reported all the way down to the lowest elevations of Crestline, such as Crest Forest and Valley of Enchantment. Chain control was established at the 4k foot level turnout on Highway 18. The snow fell heavily for about 4 hours, but it only took about 30 minutes before multiple reports of vehicles spinning out, getting stuck, or even crashing began to flow in. As of midnight, CHP has continued to work to help stranded drivers. While CHP works to free the stranded, CalTrans and the county work to clear the roads of all the snow to prepare for the Monday morning commute. Last but not least, a Vehicle crashed into a property owner's front yard, and it was caught on camera. The video and story will be attached and packaged with this post.
