Things to do in Melbourne at night
Tonight, I went full nocturnal on two of Melbourne’s biggest infrastructure beasts - the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) and the Metro Tunnel Project. With nightfall setting in and the photocell’s resistance rising, I set off from Carlton Gardens, pedalling north to get a close-up look at Victoria’s Big Build. I stopped by Bell Station, Preston, Reservoir, Coburg, and Moreland to check out the completed stations under lights. The LXRP is removing dangerous level crossings faster than I can change a flat - well, that’s a lie, I run tubeless. As Melbourne’s rail and road network gets a major glow-up, I take a peek where they're burrowing Parkville Station, State Library, and Town Hall. They're looking pretty beneficial, and will play a big ecological role by providing transport for other species (aka humans), reshaping how we move and ride. Tourist bonus round... this video accidentally doubles as a list of things to do in Melbourne - feat. the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum, IMAX, Bin Chicken Island, HM Prison Pentridge, Ikon Park, the State Library of Victoria, Flinders Street Station, Fed Square, Crown Casino, MCEC, and even the Mad Max-famous South Lawn car park. Thinking of watching the Crown’s gas bridges light up? Don’t - they didn’t. If you’re into a bit of night riding, a bit of gravel at Edgars Creek Trail, and a lot of Melbourne’s transport upgrades, it's all here. Let me know if you're keen for more after-dark missions.
