He comes from the famous musical families of Kabul’s historic Kharabat district and is the son and disciple of the renowned Afghan tabla maestro Ustad Toryalai Hashimi. His training began at the age of seven under his father in both the Afghan tabla tradition and the Punjab Gharana style. Later, he became a disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, and also attended masterclasses with Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Yogesh Samsi. Eman has performed internationally at prestigious venues and festivals, including the Kennedy Center and the San Francisco International Arts Festival, collaborating with artists from Afghan, Indian, jazz, and world music traditions. He is also the founder and director of PACA (Preserving Afghan Cultural Arts), a non-profit dedicated to preserving Afghanistan’s rich musical heritage through education and performance. From a musical perspective, Eman Hashimi is considered one of the brightest representatives of the new generation of Afghan tabla players, carrying forward his family’s legacy while maintaining a strong grounding in the Hindustani classical tradition. #tabla
