Diego Martin woman charged after Arima traffic confrontation

Diego Martin woman charged after Arima traffic confrontation A 38-year-old Diego Martin woman has been granted bail after appearing before the Arima High Court on multiple charges stemming from a confrontation with traffic police officers in Arima. Katrianna Rezende appeared before Master Lisa Singh-Phillip on Wednesday charged with Assaulting a Police Officer, Disorderly Behaviour, Resisting Arrest, Dangerous Driving and Careless Driving. She pleaded not guilty to all offences. The court granted her $80,000 bail for the assault charge and a further $60,000 bail for the remaining offences. She was also ordered to report to the Four Roads Police Station once monthly. The matter was adjourned to June 24th, 2026. According to police reports, officers attached to the Arima Traffic Department were conducting patrols along Sorzano Street when they observed a heavily tinted vehicle parked in a no-parking zone. Police said the driver was issued a ticket for the tint violation and instructed to move the vehicle but allegedly refused. Officers also claimed she declined to provide her driving documents before attempting to drive away. During the incident, the vehicle allegedly came into contact with PC Phillips and WPC Hamid. WPC Hamid later reported suffering injuries to her foot and, fearing for her safety, drew her firearm. Police said one round of ammunition was accidentally discharged while the officer attempted to re-holster the weapon. Both officers later received medical treatment at the Arima Health Facility. Rezende’s husband, 39-year-old Manuel Rezende, was also charged with Disorderly Behaviour and Obscene Language in connection with the incident. He appeared before Magistrate Ali and was granted $30,000 bail. His matter was adjourned to November 30th, 2026. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
