Condemned Sony SL2500 Betamax given a stay of execution
This one was condemned a few years ago to the bone yard. To celebrate the Betamax 50th anniversary this one is given a second lease on life. There are multiple problems and obsolete parts involved that need to be rebuilt. Will it work? Who knows, but I can tell you it was a fun one for sure. To some this high end machine was considered the best (and the SL2700 that followed) but this chassis was the least liked by servicemen because it was over engineered and thus had many quirks that caused headaches. From plastic gears that broke, to guide pins that sheared off to snapping prized tapes on rewind. Nope not a great design on all 3 that used this chassis, the 2000, 2500 and 2700. When they work they work great mind you.
