Sermon Summary: We have the person and work of Christ preached in a single verse: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” John the Baptist was the one who uttered these sublime words. The question is, what did John understand when he saw the Lamb walking toward him? He saw the fulfillment and ultimate expression of the lambs sacrificed in the Old Covenant, but he also saw in Jesus the hope of the world. Christ is the only Lamb of God who, through the excellence of his person and work, takes away sin, not partially, but completely.
