Pubs of London's Ancient Clerkenwell District
An exploration of the pubs of Clerkenwell, an ancient area of London just outside the old city walls, defined by monastic settlements and political revolutionaries. As always I'll be taking a look at the architecture, interior and history of each pub on this tour, as well as the origin of their names, plus a quick look at the real ale offering. Along the way we touch on various plots and conspiracies relating to Clerkenwell over the years, rallies and demonstrations by the Chartists and temperance movement, and other political figures associated with the area like Lenin, Stalin (maybe?) and Marx (although not sure which one, probably Groucho). Plus a surprising revelation that pirated music goes back much further than you probably thought.
