Iwaki is located in the southwest part of the Tsugaru Plain in western Aomori Prefecture. Iwakiyama Shrine, located on Mt. Iwaki, is worshiped throughout Tsugaru, and the people of Tsugaru have worshiped Mt. Iwaki since ancient times, making it a cornerstone of their daily life. Climbing music and descending music are played during the pilgrimage to the mountain, an event where people climb to the inner shrine of Iwakiyama Shrine on the summit of Mt.
