What Happens When You Report a Workplace Bully to HR?

What happens when you report a workplace bully to HR? I did it — here is what happened. In my last video I set a boundary with a workplace bully using premeditatio malorum and equanimity. Watch the prior video where I talk about why I decided to stand up to this bully:    • Standing Up to a Workplace Bully Before I ...   His reaction was worse than I expected. He yelled, banged on my locked classroom door, refused to leave when he got in, and did all of this in front of children. Then he told the principal I was the one yelling. So I filed a formal harassment complaint with HR. Reporting a workplace bully is something most people don't know how to do — or assume won't work. In this video I walk you through exactly what happened, how the formal HR process works, and what the outcome was. I also share eight strategies for dealing with a workplace bully including how to document workplace bullying, how to confront a bully at work directly, how to report a coworker to HR, and what to do when your supervisor won't intervene. As Marcus Aurelius said — "You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this and you will find strength." I am leaving after 32 years of teaching with my integrity intact — something I have built through years of making hard choices. If you have ever stayed silent when you wish you hadn't, I would love to hear your story in the comments.
