In this episode, we traveled to Harlingen, one of the oldest port cities in the Netherlands, located on the shores of the Wadden Sea. During our walk, we saw the historic city center, drawbridges, and the North Sea embankment. We unexpectedly stumbled upon a major motorcycle rally, sampled famous Dutch herring, and learned why Harlingen is considered the gateway to the Frisian Islands. Ferries depart daily from Harlingen to the islands of Vlieland and Terschelling. These islands are known for their beaches, dunes, cycling routes, and the opportunity to spot fur seals while cruising the Wadden Sea. Unfortunately, we missed the ferry this time, but we had a great excuse to return again and feature the islands in a future episode.
