How to grow and propagate Sarracenias with specialist grower Donna Smith of Triffid Park Nursery!

This week on The Horti-Culturalists we're visiting the fabulous Triffid Park carnivorous plant nursery to meet with owner and grower Donna Smith to learn all her tips and tricks for growing and propagating the extraordinary group of plants, Sarracenias! In this video we'll look at the plant's growing and dormancy cycle, hardiness, how to re-pot and divide, and answer some questions around type of pot to use and to fertilise...or not! Donna uses peat with perlite to pot all her plants, and as we mentioned in the video, peat is not used at all in commercial potting mixes in Australia and is a specialised horticultural product here. Not the case in other parts of the world where the use of peat is being discouraged for sustainable environmental reasons. The Sarracenia species we mention in this video are: Sarracenia leucophylla x 'Umlauftiana' Sarracenia flava Sarracenia leucophylla Sarracenia minor Sarracenia psittacina Sarracenia purpurea Sarracenia oreophila Sarracenia rosea Sarracenia alabamensis You can find the nursery web site here: https://www.triffidpark.com.au/ and the Instagram account here:   / triffidpark   You can find The Victorian Carnivorous Plant Society here: https://www.vcps.org/ and you are sure to find a carnivorous plant society in your region!
